Bynes Solicitors was founded in 1977. Its founder was John
Byne, who, after working at firms in Torquay, Totnes and Barnstaple,
returned to his home town to set up his own practice. He remains the
firms Senior Partner to this day.
Bynes has since grown from strength to strength, with Michael
Hayman joining the partnership in 1984 to bring his experienced
advocacy skills to the Litigation Department. More recently, in
2000,
Alasdair
James was appointed head of the
Criminal Department, and, in 2001, he became the firms third
partner. The firm currently employs a total of eight fee earners,
six secretaries and five support staff. It is one of the leading
firms of solicitors in Torbay.
The firms offices were originally based on the Terrace, before
moving to Union Street. Since 1985 they have been situated above Castle
Circus at 186 Union Street (incorporating No. 184 since 2000), just
opposite the Magistrates Court.
Bynes commands an excellent reputation throughout the neighbouring
area, and has consequently become part of the local community and
built up a wide client-base over the years. It has always taken great
pride in being friendly and approachable to its clients, and in developing
individual relationships with them.
Bynes has a bright future ahead of it. The firms high standards
of work were endorsed when its Legal Aid Franchise was re-accredited
in 2000, and it aims to build on this strong base, as well as explore
the potential of the ever-advancing technological world, as it continues
to expand during the 21st century.
